Tenno-ji Buddhist Temple Tokyo Tenno-ji travel blog
General information:
The Tenno-ji Temple is situated at the end of the Sakura-dori Street, which runs through the center of the Yanaka cemetery. It was built in 1274 for the Tendai sect of Buddhism, it was destroyed during the civil war in 1868 and rebuilt. A large bronze Buddha statue constructed by Ota Yemen sits on the left of the main building, also a beautiful statue of Kannon the Goddess of mercy can be found by the temple. We experienced a peaceful atmosphere at this temple, also because there were only few people and this temple is not so well known among tourists.
Getting there: Subway station Nippori
